Christmas and New Year in Ulladulla and Sydney NSW

Christmas - New Year 2014/15

This year was going to be different for us, our first festive period in the caravan!
We are staying on a nice Caravan Park called Kings Point retreat, just outside Ulladulla NSW.
As usual, we joined the local Ex Servos club and have enjoyed a number of pleasant evenings eating and drinking there! We had a very nice meal on Christmas Eve too!

Racecourse beach, nearest beach to the campsite. Where many a happy day has been
spent fishing from the beach!!

The pool on the campsite was very quiet just before Christmas

Our little fella likes the pool

The resident kangaroo, he was over 6ft tall an absolute giant

Tom arrived on Tuesday evening after travelling by train from Sydney Central, Richard drove to the nearest train station (the last one on the track) Bomaderry a little town about an hour away.
Unfortunately Tom had left our Pork Pies in the fridge back in Sydney so major shopping had to be done.
Pork pie and pickles mainly onions is a family tradition on Helen's side for Christmas morning breakfast, Jenni was then on a mission to find some here in Ulladulla. Christmas Eve was one massive shopping day, Jenni visited the best seafood store and picked up 2kg of fresh prawns and 2 massive Moreton Bay bugs, she was in a queue for 20 mins..... Our next port of call was the butcher as we had ordered the Goose and Ham everything was ready for us to pick up. Jenni found Tom and Toby sitting outside the Oyster Wine Bar where Tom had put away some beautiful Oysters "the best he had ever tasted" but unfortunately he didn't save one for Jen needless to say she wasn't very happy. Helen visited the beautiful delicatessen opposite the Oyster Bar and once again had a very nice conversation with the owner. Helen asked if he had got such a thing as Pork Pies and lo and behold he came back with "Of course" and proceeded to bring 4 of the pies out of the cold store "Yipppeee" I bought the lot and then gave the others a very nice surprise Pork Pie was back on the menu....with smoked salmon and croissants that had been bought to replace the pies!!
We were really hoping for a swim in the pool on Christmas day but that didn't happen because as usually happens to us on Christmas Day the weather turned to a very bad thunderstorm from 3pm in the afternoon. But, hey! we had the Pork Pies for brekkie and Helen prepared the Ham and cooked it on our Ziggy BBQ then we proceeded to cook the Goose the same way on the BBQ... Prawns and bugs were cleaned an prepared by Tom and magnificent job!! Sorry I cannot find photos of the food, we did take some!

Tom, Jen and Toby had to leave us to go back to Sydney on Boxing day. We had a hearty breakfast at the caravan in very nice weather, Yes "it turned out nice again".

Boxing day is obviously the day for starting family holidays as we had quite a few caravans turn up on site...a lovely family pitched up next to us and their friends pitched a tent directly opposite. A good conversation was had (as they were all POMS) and we formed a lovely friendship with them during the 8 days they were next to us, their children were just beautiful kids.
New Years Eve we had to relocate our caravan to another pitch and we had an audience!!
But all packed up well and towed van around to the other side of the campsite....

The girls Macy and Darcy would come and shout "Rich" when they wanted him to watch them ride their bikes. Pictures show both girls who achieved their goal of riding their new bikes (Christmas presents) Macy is the oldest at 7 and Darcy 6yrs old. Beautiful girls.

New years eve we had a lovely meal at the Ex Servos club it was a very busy night there with the main raffle prize being a trailer full of beer!!
We arrived back at the site and had a few drinks with our ex neighbours, Phil, Angela, Mat and Sarah it was quite difficult to get to know when it was actually midnight but we manage to ring it in and Richard and Helen showed the others how to sing "Auld lang syne" but before 12:30 it seemed like everyone was in bed.
Our New Years day was quite eventful our new neighbours (all 8 or 10 of them) were on a mission to carry on a Kiwi tradition of playing a game called Kubb? that was a kind of skittles game, we had never come across it in NZ they had a drink everytime using canned drinks and then would tape each can to the next see pic below...

These two girls were the Kiwi faction one from Invercargill and the other from Nelson

These guys were playing cards at midnight after all the drinking.....but not loud!!

Friday 2nd January Saw us leave Ulladulla early to travel to Sydney for a get together... Traffic was very slow through the small towns along the Princes Highway.  We arrived at Parsley Bay (which is between Vaucluse and Watsons Bay).  Here we met up with Jen, Tom, Toby and Tom's Mum Rachel and her hubby Michael. Another family who we know met up with us Nick, Annabel, Barney and their parents joined us. We had a very nice family orientated afternoon.

We stayed the night at Woollahra with Jenni and Tom. Rachel and Michael are staying in the apartment opposite Tom and Jen (the apartment we stayed in). Jenni had cooked some beautiful lamb shanks in the slow cooker and we had a very enjoyable night.
The next day we travelled back to Ulladulla and used the Grand tourist route which Helen had not been on before, such amazing vistas.

Back at our campsite lots of visits to the beach with Richard beach casting and Helen relaxing!!

The above photographs just show how beautiful it is on the local beach....unfortunately the weather has changed and we are now one of only two caravans left on the site. Ulladulla and the surrounding area has been drenched with some torrential rain, but thankfully we are now having some sunshine. Even Alice Springs has had lots of rain.....
Bye for now see you all next time we manage to get on the internet for 4 hours ha ha!!
