Farewell to our friend, Adelaide and Christies Beach - Souh of Adelaide

7th - 10th April
After saying our farewells at the airport we decided to have a look at beach campsite on our way back to Victor Harbor.  We were very taken with this campsite and its location to a very nice beach. We were allowed to have a browse around for the right spot that our caravan would fit on. It took some time before we agreed on booking a certain pitch, which we did for us to arrive on Friday 10th.
Richard wanted to visit a dentist as he had chipped a tooth a few days ago. He telephoned a few but got an appointment the same morning and had amazing treatment from a dentist and the hygienist and after paying $421 we left the surgery.
We had a few more long walks from Victor Harbor to the Whalers Inn at the Bluff before we moved on.
10th April
We left Victor Harbor and travelled approximately 53km to Christies beach we set up quickly and walked into the small seaside town, there seemed to be lots of Lawyers and Dental clinics along the main street. Oh, and the inevitable "Tattoo Parlour". Once back on the "Esplanade we came across the up market apartments and wine bars (only two though). We walked along and found the local "Chinese Restaurant" but a little further and much to Richards delight we found the "Surf Life Savers" club and he immediately booked a table for our evening dinner that night. The bar and kitchen are only open on Friday nights.

We had a very good meal in the Club and would be back here next week.

Sunday morning we decided to take a train ride into the city... We were told the trains for "Seniors" at the weekends are free, so we thought why not take the opportunity today.
We walked out of the train station in Adelaide and straight into the Casino where we had a good look around and had a coffee before "doing the City". Once again the food in here looked excellent and very reasonable so another decision was made to call in before the train ride back to the caravan.
Adelaide wasn't disappointing, the Architecture of many buildings reminded us of old England and even the South Island of NZ. We walked along North Terrace passed Government House and then Parliament House where there was a number of protestors camping out against the closure of a War Repatriation Hospital. We shook the hand of an old soldier from WW11 he was 96 years old and we signed the petition.
North Terrace is the very wide road that houses the Museum, Art Gallery, Library, South Australia University, Cenotaph and many statues and sculptures of South Australia's famous forefathers!!

Walking along North Terrace we heard the sound of a bugle and came across a group of people who were obviously practising for the Anzac day commemorations, it was quite a sight.

The bugler in position, he was excellent

After a long walk on North Terrace we decided to find the Information Site, well! what a mission this was... This is one big problem for Adelaide! We did eventually find it and received some great advice on how to see the city. Adelaide has no "City Opened Top sightseeing bus" but has a free bus but unfortunately with no commentary. It does take about an hour to complete. It took some time for us to find the right bus stop for this bus and we took the trip. Our bus driver did make us laugh as when we stopped he did come to us and told us a number of jokes. What an experience...only happens to the Woodies!!!  We saw some wonderful city suburbs especially North Adelaide and lots of beautiful parks. Adelaide is surrounded by parklands.

Our caravan had been booked in for a first year service  at a nearby caravan place and so on the evening of 14th April we unpacked and stored some of our stuff from the caravan in the campsite quiet room and some things were left chained up on our site. We were up very early on the 15th and deposited our home at the yard of the service people. Our breakfast was taken at the local Macdonalds, with the weather being really good we ventured out to Noarlunga and had a long beach walk.
We eventually received a phone call to say the van was ready and we headed out to pick our home up and once again position it on our site. Everything was where we had left it and thank goodness it didn't rain, so set up again we settled ourselves in for the night. Over the next two days we had quite a lot of rain. Friday night we once again visited the Surf Life Savers Club for dinner the bar man sold us raffle tickets and we won a bottle of wine and Richard was given a Christies Beach SLSC jacket!!! all in all a good night.
This weekend Christies Beach was the host for a weekend of food and music. We decided to walk into the village on Saturday morning but once again the weather wasn't good. A fashion parade was performed before the heavens opened!

We visited the Art Gallery our second Sunday in Adelaide, a famous South Australian, Trent Parke, a photographer, had an exhibition that we both found really interesting! His photographs told the story of part of his life. If ever you get the opportunity to see his work try and go.
Before leaving the city to catch the train we had our dinner in Adelaide Casino and very good it was too.

Our final full day here and a visit to Mount Lofty took us through some beautiful suburbs of Adelaide. Mount Lofty is a very high vantage point overlooking Adelaide the views were stunning.

Back to Christies Beach for the job of packing away the canopy etc, ready for an earlyish start to our next destination north, to a quiet "Bush type Camp" at a small hamlet sized place called Stockport where we will pass through the "Clare Valley"
